Therapies

Whatever your issue, here at Set Your Mind Free Hypnotherapy, we provide you with the tools and techniques that allow you to benefit from fast and long lasting results using a combination of hypnosis, NLP (neurolinguistic programming), CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) tapping and stress management..

Let me tell you more about the therapies I use – such as hypnosis, hypnotherapy, NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming); CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Tapping.

What is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a state of mind that most of us may experience nearly every day. For example do you remember when driving, and you suddenly look around and cannot remember the last few miles; or watching the TV but having no idea what you are watching, and realise you have been daydreaming. It’s not like being asleep, but you may feel the way you do just before dropping off to sleep. In this deeply relaxed state the subconscious is open to positive change and suggestion. But you would never do anything you would not do if you were fully awake.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to bring about positive change. A hypnotherapist does this by relaxing you and talking to your subconscious mind. There are two types of hypnotherapy and two main ways of using the subconscious to bring about positive change.

Suggestion Therapy

The hypnotherapist gives your subconscious mind a series of ’suggestions’. These suggestions, when absorbed by your subconscious mind, mean you may find you can stop doing things you no longer want to do, e.g. smoking; or you can start doing things you want to do, e.g. being confident in social situations.

Analytical Therapy

This type of therapy may be very effective in dealing with more deep-seated problems. An example would be a phobia. A phobic will have within them a fear, over which their conscious mind cannot make sense.

To cope with this, their mind must attach their fear to something, whether it is spiders, heights, snakes, or open spaces for example.

If suggestion therapy was used on you, if you were for instance afraid of open spaces; you may be helped but your basic fear, the root cause, will still be there. And you will most likely attach the fear to something else. Which means that instead of being afraid of open spaces, you may now be afraid of enclosed spaces.

Analytical therapy on the other hand, does not simply ‘mask’ your problem; it seeks to find the root cause.

Other therapies

NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming)

This therapy is often used alongside hypnosis, and involves you imaging yourself as the person you want to be; or having a silent conversation with your body. Including dealing with inner conflict through Parts Integration; for example does one part of you want to stop smoking but one part of you likes the camaraderie of smoking with your friends?  Does one part of you want to work longer hours but the other part of you wants to spend more time with your family?  Parts integration merges both parts together for your benefit and to meet your highest possible intention.  Also Time Line Therapy® which utilizes a person’s own internal “Time Line” to work with their unconscious minds in a variety of ways; including, healing emotional traumas and eradicating unwanted thoughts, emotions and behaviors enabling you to be free your past and create your future.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

The aim is to identify and understand problems through the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviour; and to then agree strategies and goals that carry through to a resolution.

Stress Management

This is not about stress-free living. Stress is an inevitable and indeed welcome part of our lives. Too much and we can feel pressured; but too little and we may lose our energy and drive, thus leading us to physical and emotional inactivity. Stress at the right level is essential to our wellbeing, creating motivation and interest. The emphasis here is teaching life management skills and stress control; so that you feel you can readily cope with the demands in your life.

Tapping

This meridian based therapy involves tapping the body’s acupuncture pressure points using your fingers. This technique connects the body & emotions via the body’s energy system. It is quick and easy to learn and often has fast results. Tapping works well in conjunction with other therapies and has an 80-95% success rate.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)

This is an innovative, research-supported approach to psychotherapy for resolving disturbing and traumatic experiences, whether they occurred recently or decades ago. Survivors of natural disaster, combat, abuse, assault, accidents, chronic illness, and other incidents of traumatic stress have all benefited from the skillful use of EMDR. Many people have also found EMDR effective as a mind/body approach to treat a broad range of other emotional and physical conditions such as depression, anxiety, phobias, and addiction. Others have used EMDR to enhance internal resources like self-confidence and determination.

EMDR facilitates the access of your network of memories, so the information in
those memories can be more productively processed, with new connections
forged between traumatic memories and more adaptive memories or information. This is done through a series of eye movement when I will ask you to follow my fingers with your eyes. This may result in complete information processing, new learning,
elimination of emotional distress, and the development of rational insights.

How can I access these benefits?

Whichever of the above processes we undertake in partnership, the main benefit will be accessing new resources just for you.

Sometimes you may merely lack certain strengths, abilities or insights. On other occasions you may already possess the resources you need, but perhaps they are hidden or blocked by other negative outlooks or behaviour. Whatever the position, using the effective approaches and interventions at Set Your Mind Free Hypnotherapy you can bring about the change/s you desire.

You know how hard it can be to take that first step on the road to self-improvement. Yet invariably it is the thought of the effort of change that is harder than change itself. In fact how often do you say after finally taking the leap, “Why didn’t I do that sooner?” It goes to show that your mind creates barriers to moving forward, not so much because it is difficult, but because you may fear the unknown, even if it transpires to be a better place!

So, if you find yourself standing hesitantly at the brink of moving away from your past, ask yourself this. Change might seem daunting and an effort, but how much more of an effort and how daunting will it be to spend yet another year locked within your problem – or even a lifetime? The solution is within your grasp. Take the leap towards resolution and contact me to move forward. I’m here to support you and I will work with you every step of the way.

How it works

Simple problems such as stopping smoking require only two sessions. More deeply rooted concerns may take longer. After taking a relevant history of your issue, a suitable programme will be agreed in partnership. It may involve one of the therapies mentioned above or a combination of some of them. This programme will involve relevant exercises and approaches, undertaken both during the session and sometimes in your own time, which will support the alleviation or resolution of your issues
